Deep thoughts

When one door of happiness closes, another opens, but often we look so long at the closed door that we do not see the one that has been opened for us.

For any of you who have had the joy of following my adventures throughout the years, this one is going to tickle your funny bone!

So yesterday went just like most days do. I worked from 7am-7pm at the hospital while the kids played at Grandma's house. (Thanks mom!!) Case left town that morning, so Libby and her family were kind enough to keep the dog for the day. (Thanks Libb!!) Work went as expected and all was well with the world. Matthew was awesome enough to "volunteer" to help me with the kids the next day and get Zach off to school and take care of stuff while I went to work again the next day.

I got off work at my usual time and headed up to the heights to pick the kids up and take them home. All normal stuff...until I got home...

The boys were pretty good and got off to bed without (much) fuss. Matthew arrived after his movie at about 8:30 and we chatted and then I decided I needed to go to bed...

I went into the bathroom to brush the teeth, go potty...you know, all the normal stuff. As I went to exit the bathroom to go to bed I turned the doorknob and...NOTHING!!

Yep, you guessed it, I was stuck. The knob would turn, but the hammer would not pull back to let the door open! I tried and tried, jiggled and jiggled, tugged and tugged, then I yelled and yelled.

Matthew upon noticing that I was trying to get his attention came to my "aide". Now something you must understand is that my house is older, and I don't think the door knobs inside the house have EVER been replaced. This particular knob had no screws on it, anywhere! Not on my side of the door and not on the other side. I was really stuck!

Matthew called my dad and he tried to talk us through trying to get the knob off, but no go! I was still stuck...in my bathroom...on the 2nd floor of my house...at what was now 10:30 pm!

We tried getting the pin out of the hinges of the door, but I don't really keep anything strong enough to do that with INSIDE the bathroom, and finally we called Libby's husband Matt.

Matt arrived, laughing, and proceeded to try everything that we had tried and then started to remove the molding from around the door in order to get a screwdriver between the door and the wall to let me out. This took about 15-20 minutes and allot of cringing on my part as I listened to the wood screech as it was pulled away from the wall. (at least we didn't have to cut the door or break it down) Finally the door releases and I am free!!!

It is then that Matt discovers that the plate that sits against the door on MY SIDE comes off and ... THERE ARE THE SCREWS!!!

I was stuck in my bathroom for a little over an hour! It was 11:10 before I got out. Most of that time all I could think about was that I wished I had some cleaning supplies so I could tidy up a bit. My bathroom was a bit of a mess.

I now have a working bathroom door (if you ignore the ripped up molding, and the missing door knob) so you are all welcome to come use it. It's still not cleaned, but hey the most important thing is, I'M NOT TRAPPED IN IT!

More adventures later!

*giggle* That happened to us once. Sadly, Rob's aunt was stuck in our bathroom for somewhere closer to 6 hours. I don't remember exactly how long. Glad to hear you weren't in there for that long!
